A finishing salt in a dessert sounds like a trick — until you taste it. This Apple & Fig Crisp uses The Showgirl Seasoning twice in the recipe and once more at the table: once in the fruit filling to draw out the sweetness of the apples and figs, once in the oat and pecan topping to balance the brown sugar and butter, and again as a finishing sprinkle over vanilla ice cream right before serving. The result is a crisp that tastes more complex than its ingredient list suggests — warm, bubbling fruit under a golden, crumbly top, with just enough salt to make every bite land.
Here’s what you’ll need:
Ingredients
For the Filling
- 4 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 6 fresh figs, quartered
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
- 1 tsp The Showgirl Seasoning
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
For the Crisp Topping
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- ¾ cup all-purpose flour
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ½ tsp The Showgirl Seasoning
- ½ cup unsalted butter, melted
- ½ cup chopped pecans
For Serving
- Vanilla ice cream
- The Showgirl Seasoning, for finishing
Directions
- Preheat: Heat the oven to 350°F.
- Make the filling: Add the apples, figs, brown sugar, lemon juice, The Showgirl Seasoning, vanilla, and flour to a large bowl. Toss until evenly coated.
- Transfer: Pour the fruit mixture into a greased 9-inch baking dish and spread into an even layer.
- Make the topping: In a separate bowl, mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, The Showgirl Seasoning, pecans, and melted butter until a crumbly mixture forms.
- Top: Spread the crisp topping evenly over the fruit.
- Bake: Bake for 35–40 minutes, until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden brown.
- Rest: Let the crisp rest for 10 minutes before serving.
